Tips and Tricks for Happy Road Trips

That was a fun little header!!!!  We just got back from a very long road trip from Northern Utah to Disneyland and back.  We had a blast yet being in the car that long can drive anyone crazy.  So having said that and without taking everything from your home including the kitchen sink what do you take on a road trip?  Well, thanks to my pediatrician, who is also my great friend, I have some tips and tricks for you to help you along your road trip.

Have your kids help you pick some of their favorite things to do from the dollar store, Target’s Dollar Spot, or your home, or make up some of your own games that you can put on paper.  You don’t have to spend much.  I spent about $20 total. We picked out games, coloring stuff, craft items that were NOT messy {a bag of pipe cleaners lasted them a couple of hours creating fun things}, DVD’s {from our home}, tablet time, and a few other fun things. Then every hour that they get along with each other I gave them a present!  We picked out our presents weeks before so they kinda forgot about them.  This worked awesome.  We did have a little break down and one of my little ones didn’t get 2 of her presents because she had an attitude.  She learned pretty quick that we were serious that they would only get the presents if they were happy!  Another tip is to make sure your little ones have full tummies with good food, not just junk.  This was one of the reasons our little girl’s melt down happened.  As adults it seems like we don’t need to eat much  but the little ones do.  So, make sure to take a lunch or stop somewhere and get healthy treats.
One last tip is to make sure they are comfortable.  I found little neck pillows that wrap around their necks for $3 at Target and they worked perfect.  I also brought a small blanket for each child.  They used their blankets to stay warm {hubby loves the ac} to block the sun, and also as a tray for their toys, and snacks.
Hope this helps you have a fun safe trip.
Enjoy the ride!
